Paul proposed to Helen on Christmas Day 2016. When the time came to open presents, Paul told Helen her present wouldn't be found under the tree but IN the tree. Helen had an inkling of what her gift was and started searching excitedly through the tree. However after 10 minutes (less than 5 according to Paul) of searching through the dense tree and inside several ornaments, she still couldn't find the wrapped gift. Finally after shattering an ornament, she found a box hidden deep within the branches. She started unwrapping the box at the same time she began weeping tears of happiness. Once the box was opened, Paul got down on one knee and asked her to marry him. And she immediately said yes. To celebrate, Paul recreated the dinner he made on their first date. It was absolutely perfect and the best Christmas ever.
